How Do I Choose Skincare For My Skin Type?

Skin type is a useful starting point. But it does not always explain how a routine feels to use — or why two people with similar skin can prefer entirely different products.

Skincare can also be chosen by experience. By texture. By what feels comfortable to return to each day.

Skin type and skin experience

Skin type describes what your skin tends to do. Dry. Oily. Combination. Sensitive.

Skin experience describes how your skin feels right now — in this routine, at this point in the year.

Both are useful. But experience is often the more practical guide.

A routine that works well is one that feels right to use consistently. That is harder to find by matching labels than by noticing what your skin is actually responding to.

Two pathways. The same intention.

At NUA, our two ritual pathways are not built around skin type categories. They are built around experience.

Support / Calm
For those who prefer skincare to feel softer, calmer and centred on comfort and hydration. Often preferred when skin feels sensitive, reactive or overwhelmed.

Cleanse / Hydrate
For those who prefer skincare to feel lighter, fresher and centred on hydration and balance. Often preferred when skin feels normal to oilier, or when a cleaner finish feels right.

Both rituals are centred on hydration. The difference is not what your skin is. It is how you prefer your routine to feel.

A different way to choose

Skincare does not need to be chosen by diagnosis.

If your skin tends to feel more sensitive or reactive, Support / Calm may feel more familiar. If your skin tends to feel balanced or slightly oilier, Cleanse / Hydrate may feel more aligned.

And if you are unsure, noticing how your skin feels — rather than deciding what type it is — is often the clearest place to start.

If what you’ve read feels familiar, there may be a place to begin.

For skin that prefers a softer, calmer feel — The Calm Ritual was designed with that in mind.

For skin that prefers something lighter and fresher — The Essentials Ritual may feel more aligned.

Choosing skincare doesn’t begin with finding the right skin type.

It begins with finding the cleansing experience that feels right for your skin. From there, the rest of the routine tends to become much clearer.
